Book Blurb:

At forty, Lan Davis is looking for his damned picket fence and 2.5 kids. What he doesn’t expect is instead of a wife in the picture, his mind keeps conjuring up images of two men. One, his partner in the force, who is as straight as they came, the other an ex, who he’d hurt but never forgot.

After an incident leaves Lan injured, the two men rally around him… only maybe they shouldn’t have. It seems a medicated Lan is a truthful one.

Parker Wilding is pissed at the world. His anger builds when his partner refuses medical care after an attack. Instead, Lan entrusts his neighbour to take care of him—a guy Parker doesn’t trust. While he’s aware they share a history, when the past is revealed, the truth shocks the hell out of him.

Being emotionally crushed ten years ago, Easton Ravel hoped he would never have to see the man who broke him again. Hope is a fickle b*itch. And now he’s not sure how to handle being face-to-face with the man he once loved. Add in the mix the annoying, testy Parker, and Easton finds his limits are pushed.

Just not in the way he thought they would be.

What happens next sure does come out of the blue.

Book Review

The cover and synopsis for Out of the Blue by Lila Rose were promising. However, nothing throws me off more from enjoying a book than an overused word that is jarring to read. In this case, the word was “arse”. I don’t know if the author has an aversion to the word ass, but everything was arse-something.

It was too much for me 😫.

Lan, Easton, and Parker were interesting characters. My favorite part of the book was sadly the first chapter. Lan and Easton had such instant chemistry that I was disappointed when the book suddenly dropped them as a couple like a hot potato.

Lan is forgiven too quickly, thanks to being in mortal danger, and in turn, he outs himself when he is high off painkillers. The title likely refers to the character Parker’s sudden change of heart and lifestyle when he discovered he is totally gay for 2 men. However, that doesn’t even begin to be explored until halfway through the book since the first half is spent reuniting Easton and Lan first, while putting Parker in situations that make him question his sexuality.

By the time Parker even gets to the point where he is ready to explore his new attraction, there’s only time for 2 or 3 sexy scenes before the whole story is rushed to a resolution.

Sure, there’s plenty of characters introduced in this story, all of whom may get their own story eventually (if they haven’t already), but I could have done with fewer people and more sex.

As hot as Parker ran for Easton and Lan, it was disappointing not to have had more of them together in this book. Coupled with a distracting overuse of the word arse, this book only reached 3.5 stars for me.

Out of the Blue by Lila Rose is available to read on Kindle Unlimited.
