Criss Cross, Psycop Book 2 by Jordan Castillo Price, may be a novella, but it manages to pack a lot of action from beginning to end. Prepare for ghosts going aggro and stranger things. It picks up the action right from the end of Among the Living (Book 1).

After Victor lost his last NP (non-psychic) partner because she actually had precog ability, he was tagging along with Jacob and his psychic partner, Carolyn. But things shake up with new characters and cold cases.

Victor gets a new NP partner, Roger Burkes, who is a little too eager to butter him up with Starbucks. Since Roger is young and good-looking, Jacob goes all Alpha male when he makes Roger’s acquaintance. But there is strain on the relationship when Victor wakes up, scratching bloody symbols into Jacob’s flesh.

Victor is seeing weird things in the TV static. Ghosts are more aggressive, not just talking to him, but grabbing at him, or trying to slip into his skin! It’s like he turned up his ability to 11.

There is a conspiracy at work, and I don’t want to give anything away. I feel I would not do the plot justice, and I just really, REALLY want you to read the book!

One of my favorite things is the level of world-building JCP has done, which is evident in the rich descriptions. I believe it accounts for the plethora of extra reading JCP shares with us readers in short stories and flash fiction. So much so that it helps to keep a comprehensive list so I don’t miss anything!

If you like crime/police dramas, paranormal, and hot romance, you will like the PSYCOP series. Criss Cross, and the series in general, is like a perfect blend of all those genres.

Next: Striking Sparks (#2.1), Many Happy Returns (#2.2), and Mind Reader (#2.3) – short stories in PSYCOP Briefs.
