Definitely Crossed Over to the Dark Side…
DARK LOVER is the first book of the series referred to as BDB or Black Dagger Brotherhood. This also happened to be my first foray into this genre of fantasy romance. The first time I read the book, I didn’t even glance at the glossary that is at the front of the book. I did, however, end up referring to it from time to time as I read the story, which made me appreciate having the glossary in the first place.

Ward’s style of writing is HOT. If you want mild scenes of sexual love…don’t read this book! This book is exciting and very, very intense. The heat between Beth, the human, soon to be vampire, and Wrath, the last purebred vampire and leader of the BDB, is palpable. I can’t tell you how many times I have read this book. Sometimes I don’t even read every chapter, or every page, but rather skip around to the scenes I enjoyed and the parts of the story that pertain only to the vampire characters.
I think one of my favorite nuances of this version of vampires is the concept of “bonding”. One of the things I love most about romance is that deep down, all of us want our one True Love. Bonding is a physical manifestation of that ideal. Its like a spiritual form of bondage with the one that holds your heart. Who doesn’t want some sexy male totally crazy about them? And then be also totally possessive, but in a loving way that means that he will be completely careful and gentle with you, but animalistic and territorial with other males? Yeah. I am so into that. Love it!!
