As I finish Book 2 of the Immortals After Dark series, I conclude that No Rest for the Wicked by Kresley Cole is a sexier, even more intense trip than the first! As if that were possible, Kresley Cole has managed to kick it up some extra notches in this follow-up to A Hunger Like No Other. This book does not require you to have read the first in the series for it to make sense, but there is more satisfaction knowing that I am continuing the story as it was meant to progress. Subjectively, the characters are independent and definitely strong enough to captivate all on their own.

This book was hot, made me glad that I read it during the day, because I would not have slept a wink had I read it at night (my favorite time to curl up with a book). I was unable to put the book down at all! Phone calls and other daily activities were unwanted interruptions. I simply had to know what was going to happen between Kaderin–the Valkyrie vampire slayer– and Sebastian, the forlorn warrior vampire with a death wish. It was so good!

The storyline centered around the epic “Hie” or immortal version of the Amazing Race, where they chase off to far-flung parts of the Earth in search of items in a scavenger hunt. The Hie is inherently dangerous, the rules are few, and the violence encouraged, and Kaderin has been winning the Hie for the last millennium. Before the Hie begins, she’s killing time doing what she does best, ridding the world of vampires, especially those of the Horde (crazed killers that are ruled by their bloodlust), when she meets up with Sebastian.

It’s a clash of the titans affair from the start, and the sparks (along with a lot of construction materials and general flotsam) literally fly between them. He is determined to have her, she is determined to get away and regain her control over her senses, the cold calculation that has made her the greatest contender in the Hie.

I was riveted by the chemistry between Sebastian and Kaderin. The pages where they “clashed” in bedrooms and other locales literally scorched. I am surprised my book wasn’t smoking when I got through reading it. I highly recommend keeping a glass of water nearby while you read this book to stay hydrated, and plenty of rest prior to reading. There will be no rest for this wicked, indeed…
