The Beast Who Bought Me by Leighton Greene – Book Review
I know why the caged bird sings…
Book Blurb:
The Beast Who Bought Me by Leighton Greene had been on my list since it was announced. The title alone was enough to sell me. I’m always down for a good captivity story. Book 1 of an ongoing-couple trilogy, this is MM dark romance that earns its content warning: an underground auction, a man with a two-decade vendetta, ten million dollars, and a prison built specifically for one person. Leighton Greene leans hard into the possessive, obsessive dynamic and doesn’t apologize for it, which is exactly what this kind of story needs. I’m always down for a good captivity story.
What I didn’t realize until I was already deep in was that this is set in the same universe as the Morelli Family series. That discovery made everything better. Fair warning: it ends on a cliffhanger, and you will not be mad about it.
Book Review
What Works
The MCs are scorching together. Damiano and Caligula. What names. Leighton Greene leans hard into the possessive, obsessive dynamic and doesn’t apologize for it. Which is exactly what this kind of dark romance needs. Caligula is the right amount of bratty, proud prince that makes Damiano’s claim worthwhile. The stakes feel genuinely dangerous too. Caligula is marked for death, and someone is actively trying to kill him throughout. Damiano’s not having it, but it costs him in more ways than one. This isn’t a dark romance that is dark in name only.
What Will Surprise You
I’ll be honest. I forgot this was a trilogy opener!! So early on, I was wondering why things were moving so slowly. But the pacing earns itself. Rushing the relationship would have broken the character development, and by the end, I understood exactly why we needed to be held back. I didn’t even mind the cliffhanger because I’m rereading it a few more times until the next one comes out.
Who Should Read This
If you love possessive antiheroes, mafia intrigue, forced proximity, light BDSM, and dark romance that actually delivers on its promises–this is for you. Morelli series readers will get an extra layer of enjoyment spotting the universe connections.
The Verdict
Five stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Whether you’re new to Greene’s world or already deep in the Morelli universe, this is a perfect entry point with a lot of promise to deliver. Put it on your list and go read it!!
