When two wizards from opposite sides of a magical war are forced together, the tension isn’t just political, it’s electric. The Entanglement of Rival Wizards is enemies-to-lovers done right, and I was hooked from the first page. This was my first Sara Raasch book, and it will probably not be my last.
The chemistry is the beating heart of this book, and it earns every bit of it. What I love most about a well-executed enemies-to-lovers story is when the characters’ admiration for each other is so intense it curdles into something that looks like hatred, and Raasch nails that dynamic. These two respect each other deeply before they’re willing to admit they like each other, and that tension is genuinely delicious.
The opposites-attract trope is in full effect, opposite sides of the war, opposite sides of the tracks, but it never feels lazy because the world-building gives those differences real weight. Also worth calling out: Raasch plants her sequel setup so organically that I clocked Sebastian’s best friend as the next MC before I even knew a sequel existed. That’s confident, intentional writing.
Anyone who loves enemies-to-lovers with genuine bite, fantasy romance with a war backdrop, or wizards with complicated feelings. It’s also a great pick if you’re building out your romantasy reading list.
The Entanglement of Rival Wizards is a five-star debut on my Sara Raasch journey, and I’m already eyeing the sequel. If you love your rivals with crackling chemistry and your magic with real stakes, this one is for you. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
